We had the pleasure of welcoming 85 students and faculty members from the first year of architecture at Ghent University to the Atelier Carli Vanhout & Paul Schellekens.
During their excursion in Turnhout, the students were able to delve into the story of the Turnhout School. Besides visiting the atelier, they also made stops at several iconic locations such as Paul Neefs’ residence, Paul Schellekens’ house, and the Warande Cultural Centre.
The bus also made a brief stop at Jozef Schellekens’ house to further explore the history of Turnhout’s architecture.
As an assignment, the students put into small groups and tasked with providing explanations about the residences that they had visited, which led to fascinating insights and new perspectives on the characteristic architecture of Turnhout.
We find it particularly valuable to see how the new generation honours the old and shows respect for the rich architectural history that has shaped their field.
